A View to the village of Matala |

On the left of this picture, the big white building, you can see our hotel. As you can see, the hotel is just a few meters from the sea. Trips in the surroundings are easy to make. There are historical places you can visit in the neighborhood but also quiet traditional villages and beaches like e.g. Agia Galini or Komos. Even by bus or scooter you can get everywhere. Heraklion is by bus only in 60 minutes to go. |

The mountains around Matala protect the village from the wind. Matala has a unique position between the chalk rocks. Lots of caves give a characteristic look at this romantic village. In the sixties, Matala was the famous meeting point of the hippies. Nowadays the caves can be visited only during the day. At night they stay closed. |

The caves of Matala are very impressive. The climate of Matala (south Crete) is maybe the best of Greece. In the summer warm and in the winter mild. The inhabitants of Matala are very hospital. South of Matala there is a huge rock formation that offers a panoramic view of the Messara Bay. |

The tourist shops of Matala are very famous. The picturesque local taverns on the beach of Matala are ideal for romantic and care-free nights. Taste the local wine and raki with a traditional meal or fresh fish from the Libyan sea. Matala is also an ideal starting point for outings and excursions to the archaeological sites but you can also do horse riding, carting, scuba diving and playing football or basketball. |
